Guest Post: Top Christmas Getaways Around the World
My Thailand adventures keep me entirely too busy to find reliable internet and post, so I’m afraid you’ll have to make do with this piece from Ken from Elliman Magazine for now. But fear not! While I’m off having new adventures to share with you, Ken’s put together this fascinating piece about Christmas celebrations around the world.
Perhaps it’s a little late for the festive season, but we’ll think positive and say he’s just getting in super early for the Christmas to come, eh? Enjoy!
Top Holiday Getaways around the World
Some people want to go some place different and spend time with their loved ones during December and the New Year’s celebration. They may want to rent a home or apartment and live like the locals at a wilderness retreat, an island paradise, a ski resort or a traditional Christmas holiday town. For romantic as well as family getaways, here are five top destinations for the 2013 holiday season.
A Merry Christmas at the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Florida
The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida is by far one of the best family-friendly vacation destinations during the holidays. Each park offers unique decorations and lighting displays, including the Osborne Family light spectacular in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Visit Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and watch the parade, see a special fireworks performance and meet Santa Claus himself.
A visit to Disney World or Disney Land isn’t just for little kids, either. Chris visited Disney World last year and fell in love all over again. You can read about that adventure here.
Christmas Market and Old Town in Innsbruck, Austria
Rentals are reasonably priced in this charming Austrian urban center. In the historic Old Town, the city has an annual and festive Christmas market. People enjoy skiing in the mountains with shuttle bus access from town. Sleigh riding is also popular, and the Old Town has fascinating shops and museums for browsing. Snow is always up in the higher mountains during December. You can’t do much more authentic than a white Christmas!
London’s Christmas in Jolly Old England
Booking ahead a flat or cottage in or near London, people can enjoy the holiday lights and music as well as the decorated and festive shops and stores. Many restaurants and taverns offer ultimate holiday dining. Fairs, pantomimes, markets and ice-skating are only a few of the activities and events available in the area during the merry Christmas season.
Taking in the Holiday in the city that never sleeps, New York City
New York City is a holiday favorite. It is a fantastic place to really soak up all that the holiday season can offer. From the beautiful tree and ice skating at the Rockefeller Center, to taking a horse drawn carriage ride around Central Park, it makes for a great get-a-way for couples looking for a romantic holiday excursion. If the shining bright lights and holiday décor are of interest, the luxurious New York City Real Estate is a spectacle to see around the holiday times. Families, too, can enjoy NYC by visiting the Empire State Building or one of many Broadway shows.
While Chris hasn’t spent the holiday season in New York, he did write about 24 hours in New York City last year.
A Colonial Christmas in Williamsburg, United States
Traditional dining, shopping and the entire colonial experience are especially meaningful and special during the Christmas holiday. Historic Williamsburg is completely decked in authentic Christmas decor. Rentals are available for couples and families in Williamsburg, a historic town in the state of Virginia where visitors step back in time and townspeople re-enact the colonial days.
